The Imaginal is a digital platform that presents film and moving-image-based screening programmes and commissioned short-form projects (documentary, narrative and experimental). It also aims to expand its scope to include discursive elements, including essays, text-based interviews and conversations with international filmmakers, moving-image artists, curators, film scholars and writers, in addition to presenting online and onsite public talks and programmes.

Through its content, The Imaginal seeks to address critical contemporary issues and experiences, both personal and collective, and to capture the defining spirit across different global locales that are often relegated to the margins. In doing so, the platform aims to embody an ethos of border and boundary-crossing that seeks to draw communities together through carefully considered content curation, as a mode of human enquiry. This is especially important in our current climate of division, separation, and fragmentation and the concentration of state and corporate power, accelerated by omnipotent forces driving us toward ever-darker dystopic horizons.

The platform’s debut project Pandemic Chronicles is ongoing and open-ended and will continue to unfold during the unprecedented global crisis of this pandemic.
