ABOUT

The Imaginal is a digital platform for curated content and conversations, bringing together diverse voices of filmmakers and moving image artists—emerging and established—from South to North, to reflect on critical issues of the contemporary moment and future imaginaries.

WHAT

The Imaginal
seeks to forge new connections between practitioners who work with film and moving image and to bring them into dialogue through various forms of curated content online. It is premised on the view that film and moving image work can be a vital lens through which to engage with social, political and existential issues and to imagine alternative futures that resist the intellectual closures and political foreclosures of our times.

The Imaginal aims to be a multimedia platform that showcases film and moving image work from around the world and immerses audiences in critical debates, inviting them to reflect on issues and themes that emerge out of contemporary moving image practice and to interrogate the shared and divergent experiences of being human today.

The Imaginal will eventually include a journal dedicated to film and moving image, featuring essays as well as interviews and curated conversations with international filmmakers, moving image artists, curators, scholars and writers.
